A keen reader has been rewarded after becoming the 100,000th shopper to make a purchase at Marlborough’s White Horse Bookshop.

Bookworm Jeanette Colebrook from Marlborough revealed she was delighted and surprised to become the 100,000 customer of the White Horse Bookshop on Monday morning.

Buying the latest Jane Harper novel The Dry, Ms Colebrook became the landmark customer for the shop and was presented with a £20 voucher by manager Angus Maclennan.

Speaking about the shop’s success since its reopening in 2014 after a refurbishment, Mr Maclennan said: “I am more than pleased with our success over the last three and a half years! Although I am secretly quite proud of what we have achieved, I am mostly both grateful and encouraged by the level of support we have had from the local community and by the response from visitors from around the world.

“I do have ‘regulars’ who call in once or twice a year without fail and others who phone from abroad for recommendations. As with most things in life it always ultimately comes down to people.”
