THE first female president of Marlborough & District Rotary Club laid down her chains this week and was praised for her dedication as she handed over to the incoming leader.

Sally Wolfenden, who had been at the helm of the club for the past year, passed the torch to new president, Cedric Hollinsworth, at a club meeting on Monday 3rd July.

Sally said, “Although it was a deep learning curve I enjoyed an enormous amount of my 12 months in office. Thank you to Rotarians Edward Ferguson and Don Ross, together with their team, for organising social events including a hugely successful Burns Night. We also had a series of successful events to raise money for local charities.

“The club will be in very good hands with Cedric.”

Incoming president Cedric thanked Sally for her work and dedication during the past year.

He said: “It’s not easy to be president of the club but Sally rose to the challenge throughout, never missing a meeting and always putting the interests of Rotary first.

“My priorities will be to increase membership, develop the social side involving our wives and partners more in club activities and strengthening links with the wider business community and town council.

“Thanks to all at the club for their support and encouragement; it’s set to be a fascinating year for Marlborough & District Rotary Club.”
