WITNESSES are being sought following a fire involving the cash machine outside of Waitrose in Marlborough High Street.

Wiltshire Police are appealing for witnesses after the cash machine was damaged by the fire at 3.23am this morning (Tuesday 9). The cause of the fire is said to be from thieves attempting to break into the machine to steal the money inside. Although a substantial amount of damage was caused there was nothing stolen.

Acting Det Sgt Phillippa Sharpley said:  "Some people were seen in the area at the time and we would like them to come forward to help us with our enquiries.
"Also, if you saw or heard anything suspicious or anyone acting suspiciously in this area at this time - please contact me."

Reports of the fire were received in the early hours of the morning, with one fire crew from Marlborough arriving at the cash machine outside Waitrose.

The crews used two fire extinguishers to put out the blaze. The cause of the fire is yet unknown and is currently being investigated by Wiltshire Police.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call Det Sgt Phillippa Sharpley at Swindon CID on 101 or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
