POLICE officers are urging residents in Marlborough to remember to lock their cars, homes and garages after a spate of overnight burglaries.

Fifteen buildings and cars, the majority in the Kelham Gardens area, were searched and items from cash, phones and bicycles were stolen overnight on Wednesday, September 16.

Two bicycles were stolen from a shed in Kelham Gardens, while two other addresses in the street had their garages entered but nothing was stolen. Five vehicles were also searched.

The thieves then moved towards the Manton area and cash was stolen from cars at Sorley Close and College Fields. A car was also searched at Aubrey Close and a mobile phone stolen from inside.

A garage was entered at Hughes Close and cash stolen from a car which was parked inside. Bicycles were stolen from garages at Betjeman Road and Macneice Drive and computer equipment was stolen from a house at Cross Lane.

Tools were also taken from a car parked at The Green overnight on September 15.

Sgt Clare Wallace of Marlborough Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “All buildings had been left insecure and offenders walked into the premises.

“Please do not leave items, especially those of any value inside your cars, lock doors and set the alarms.

“We would encourage residents to check their security, ensure that house, outbuildings and sheds are locked and secure with alarms set if they are in place.

“Other measures can be installed such as security motion sensitive lighting and CCTV. Should anyone require any advice please contact Wiltshire Police on 101.”

Several houses have also broken into in the past two weeks. Jewellery and cash were stolen from a house at Savernake Crescent after entry was gained through a smashed window last Monday, September 21.

Two houses in Ogbourne St Andrew also had jewellery, electrical equipment and cash stolen during the day of Thursday, September 17. One of the doors has been smashed open, while the other was removed.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
