Aspiring gardeners have the chance to learn new skills in the Marlborough and Pewsey area with the help of the Women’s Farm and Gardening Association (WFGA).

The Work and Retrain As a Gardener Scheme provides men and women of all ages with the opportunity to train with supervision for two days a week as part of a 12-month placement.

The placements cost £400 for trainees and a non-taxable training allowance of £5 per hour is paid direct to the trainee by the garden owner to cover travel and other costs.

Trainees are monitored and assessed by a co-ordinator through monthly reports and two visits over the year.

There are training placements available near Marlborough and Pewsey, and there may be more opportunities available if trainees are prepared to travel further afield.

Members of the WFGA can also benefit from networking events, forums, workshops and workdays.
