ONE of the longest serving trustees of the Malmesbury League of Friends has retired after dedicating 25 years to the philanthropists.

Jane Plummer decided to step down from her role last week after spending countless years helping the organisation raise and gift money for a number of health-related good causes.

The health stalwart was invited to join the trust in her capacity as a staff nurse from the former Malmesbury Hospital by the trust's former chair Moira Freeman-Thomas at a time when the hospital heavily relied upon the their grants and much needed donations of medical equipment not available on the NHS.

"I have much enjoyed my time serving as a trustee," Mrs Plummer said. "Even though we no longer have our own hospital, the MLOF still undertakes a very important role, both purchasing much needed items for the local surgeries in Malmesbury and Sherston, as well as supporting local charities and individuals in need.”

The current trust chairman Robin Clark paid tribute to the dedicated trustee, with whom he shares good memories. He said: “When Jane became a trustee, most of our support involved building projects and purchasing equipment for the hospital. In those days, we did not have the funds we now enjoy, so we used to undertake much fund raising.

“Jane has been a stalwart trustee and I have been grateful for her experience and support. She will be much missed at our meetings.”
