RESIDENTS in Hullavington displayed a record-breaking number of entries for this year's village show which celebrated its 40th anniversary.

Everything from flowers, to vegetables and photographs were entered into the show at the village hall on Saturday, which attracted scores of villages for an evening of barbecued food, beer and music.

Jebbie Hewitt, show secretary said: "The hall looked splendid with the largest number of entries for some years and it was a standing room only during the afternoon as people waited to see who had won the various trophies!"

The show also hosted a number of special guests including Mike and Avril Ellingham, who created the show in 1976, and had travelled up from Devon especially for the occasion to present some of the sixteen awards on offer.

Villager Daphne Howlett swept up in the afternoon as she won The Victor Rawlins Trophy for the horticultural classes, the Hawker Challenge Cup for the best selection of vegetables and the Village Hall Cup for the most points in show while Bob Acott won the new Hullavington Parish Council cup for the best exhibit.

Beer from the Flying Monk Brewery flowed after the presentations while residents listened to music from The Two Loud Boxes, Woe to the Provoker and Faraday.

Mr Hewitt added: "The food an the music was appreciated and enjoyed by all. This was a great finale to a busy year for the Show organisers and their fantastic team of loyal helpers. I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the past year, it has been busy but very successful so well done to all the team."
