AN appeal to change the use of single-storey office building to equestrian use with two parking spaces in Minety has been dismissed by a planning inspector.

Becky Warner of Field Farm Stud, Ashton Road, applied to change the building use in October last year but it was refused by Wiltshire Council.

Planning Inspectorate Rory Cridland decided on Thursday, June 9 that the appeal should be dismissed as there is not an essential need for a groom to live on site.

This decision was based on policy H4 of the North Wiltshire Local Plan 2011 only permits dwellings in the countryside if they contribute to the essential needs of agriculture, forestry or other rural based enterprises and Wiltshire's Core Strategy.

Additionally, the planning inspectorate noted that although the owners of Field Farm asserted there was not alternative accommodation nearby, they did not provide any evidence to prove this.

Finally, Mr Cridland concluded that the addition of two parking spaces would be contrary to Wiltshire's Core Strategy as it would not reduce the site's vehicular movements.
