A VETERAN fundraiser from Luckington donned a nurse outfit, heels and a wig and stood outside Sherston’s Post Office to raise money for CLIC Sargent’s Wig Wednesday event.

Barry Snell, 74, paraded the High Street last Wednesday dressed as ‘Leggy Lynda’ to raise money for the children’s cancer charity.

He said: “I did an hour outside the post office and collected about £30. I only stayed an hour because the toddler’s were leaving pre-school and I didn’t want to scare them off! I have left the box on the counter of the post office where it will be for another week and I still have to collect some donations from friends.

“I had a good laugh doing it and I think everyone enjoyed it. My sister who lives in Sherston says I am slightly mad, but I say I am slightly eccentric."

The 74-year-old has been an active fundraiser for many years and spent more than seven years raising money for Macmillan, including running the Macmillan way in heels and ladder-resistant tights.

Mr Snell was spurred on to raise money for charities such as St John’s, Macmillan and CLIC Sargent due to a number of health issues which have highlighted the need for support.

In total, Mr Snell believes he has raised approximately £10,000 to £20,000 for his selected charities.
