SINEWS were stretched, and long-forgotten muscles reawakened as parents joined their children at the Minety Rugby Football Club Family Fun Day, where the club’s children aged five to 12 pitted themselves against the cream of the armchair rugby crop.

A host of exciting games set by strategists and tacticians, masters of the art of rugby, had parents in everything from a ‘nose-off’ propelling rugby balls across the pitch with their noses, much to the delight of the five-year-olds, to games of tag bulldog where all the age groups were rapidly out of breath.

The parents especially longed for the barbecue and the promised land of a Sunday rest, but they were pitted against the children in a highly competitive game of tag rugby. Suffice to say the children inevitably won out despite some notable ball handling skills displayed by the mums and dads.

Medals were awarded and proudly worn at lunchtime, the just rewards of hot dogs, burgers and the Rugby World Cup on the TV in the clubhouse provided a satisfying conclusion to a great day.

The Family Fun Day was held in support of, and with support from, the Webb Ellis Rugby World Cup, the England Rugby Football Union and Wiltshire Council. Huge thanks to the coaches and Club staff involved in all aspects of the day from playing to cooking and an even bigger thanks to the players and their parents for participating in what was a fantastic day for everyone.
