FROM eclairs, love hearts and flying saucers to lemon drops, black jacks and humbugs – anyone with a sweet tooth will find it almost impossible to walk past the shop with an eye-catchingly pink signage that has just opened in Malmesbury.

Karen’s Sweet Treats is a traditional English sweet shop where bags of boiled goodies such as rhubarb and custard and fruit salads are weighed-out on scales just like they were in decades gone by.

Long time sweets enthusiast Karen Dagostino has been luring connoisseurs of candy, young and old, since opening the business near the Market Cross two weeks ago.

Said Ms Dagostino: “It’s something I’ve wanted to do for a while. It was just a matter of finding a space of just the right size in a good location. So when the shop came up here I took it straight away.”

She felt that Malmesbury, with its olde world charm, was perfect for a traditional shop selling sweets and cakes in the same manner as they were sold a century ago.

“I think it should fit in with Malmesbury very nicely. It’s a friendly town and it has lots of small independent shops.

“We had a lot of people asking about the shop while we were getting set up. We’ve had a great response so far,” she said.

As well as shelves lined with jars of boiled sweets, the shop offers 12 different types of ice cream along with a huge selection of pick ‘n’ mix and luxury Belgian chocolate and truffles, which she is happy to gift box.
