KIWI Jarred Christmas will be king of the first comedy night to be staged at The Crown pub in Devizes on September 20.

Christmas, 37, who moved to the UK in 2003, won the Chortle Comedy Award for Best Compere and also has an appearance in a Pot Noodle advertisement on his list of achievements.

He will be hosting the evening from 8pm and will be supported by fellow comedians Rob Rouse and Andrew Bird. Pub landlord Jim Lynch said: "I have seen Jarred perform and he really is very funny. I hope we will have a full house for our first comedy evening and they will become regular events."

Christmas who was reported as being 'one of the funniest men to pick up a microphone' by Time Out magazine lives at Rode, near Trowbridge and is a regular on the comedy circuit.

He grew up in Christchurch and attended an all-boys school where he did not fit in because he was not sporty but like many before him used being funny to survive.

He has appeared on BBC Two's Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Mock The Week and Channel 4's 8 Out Of 10 Cats. He also appeared in films The Wedding Video and Is This A Joke?

Tickets for the comedy evening cost £12.50 from The Crown on 01380 722692.
