HUNDREDS of people went on the attack in Devizes at the weekend when people came from far and wide for the town's wargames group's 38th event.

Devizes & District Wargames Group secretary Philip Mackie said: "This year's Attack! was particularly well attended with around 1,100 people coming to Devizes School over the weekend."

Brian Vizek from Chicago took the prize for travelling furthest. Mr Mackie said: "I first met Brian in 1994 walking 18th century battlefields in the former East Germany and Poland and we became friends.

"He has come to the Attack! whenever he can and I have visited his club show in the USA. In fact he is an affiliate member of the DDWG and helped run the bring and buy stand.

"This year we had six competitions using armies from ancient Romans through to the 40th millennium with the popular Warhammer 40K rules. We are already planning for next year by adding a new X-Wing event."

A raffle raised £301, which the club will make up to £350, for SSAFA Wiltshire. Next year's show will be on July 21 and 22.
