THE farm will come to town on Saturday (24) when rare breed cows take over the Market Place in Devizes.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust is organising Country Comes To Town from 10am to 4pm as a free event for all the family.

Belted Galloway cows that usually keep the county's meadows under control will swap the grasslands for the asphalt of the Market Place where there will also be stalls showcasing the trust's projects on Magnificent Meadows, Wild Connections and the Repair Academy.

Magnificent Meadows is working to save these important areas while Wild Connections is a lottery funded initiative to get people involved in the countryside and the Repair Academy raises awareness about recycling.

Visitors will also be able to take part in a Forest School taster session and learn how to identify wildlife. People will also be able to try their hand at country crafts.

Wiltshire Wildlife Trust’s fundraising and communications manager Michele Gard said “This is a great opportunity to experience the work of the Trust in a fun and interactive way.

"We’ve got lots of knowledgeable and passionate staff and volunteers who can answer your wildlife questions and give advice on a whole range of nature related subjects. Many of the activities are free so it’s a great day out for all the family.”

The trust will also be holding its annual meeting and volunteer awards at St Andrews Church in Devizes on the same day from noon.
