A DEVIZES man pleaded guilty to two counts of attempted burglary with intent to steal last Thursday at North West Wiltshire Magistrates’ Court.

Jonathan Brian Jennings, of Southbroom Road, was given a 12-month community order, with 100 hours of unpaid work and 10 days of rehabilitation for stealing alcohol.

Prosecutor Michelle Hewitt said that in the early hours of the morning on July 15, the 26-year-old climbed over the rear wall of Sainsbury’s in Monday Market Street and stole two packs of lager from the store’s warehouse.

He then carried out a second attempt at stealing alcohol but this time was caught by staff , was escorted from the premises and then arrested. Both of the incidents were filmed on CCTV.

His defence, Kim Moules, said that he is very apologetic, it was completely out of character and since then he has given up drinking alcohol in a bid to be a role model for his daughter.

She continued that he has done this as he wants to be a role model for his daughter.

The probation officer added that he has been diagnosed with depression and is on anti-depressants and that he would be fit to carry out some unpaid work.

Jennings was also ordered to pay court costs of £85 and a £85 victim surcharge.
