WILTSHIRE cabinet member for housing Jonathon Seed has appealed against a decision by his own council in a bid to get permission to build four homes on land at Chittoe Heath near Bromham.

The eastern area planning committee had turned down the plan to develop the land, which had previously been used for holiday chalets, at their home in the village.

In a report to the appeal inspector an agent for Coun Seed says: "The appeal site forms part of an established group of dwellings known as Chittoe Heath. Therefore, as a matter of fact, the grant of planning for this development will not give rise to the creation of isolated housing in the countryside."

He argued that restrictions on development in hamlets near Bromham in a local plan had been declared no longer fit for purpose by an inspector examining the Wiltshire Core Strategy.

But neighbour Dianne Goddard has written to object saying: "Some of land in which the current lodges sit on was originally green belt land, my

understanding was that approval for the lodges was given as they were not permanent structures.

"I am not sure how permanent structure's can replace temporary structures. Four houses seems a lot in comparison to four chalets. The Chalets are single story as is the main house but the new houses are much bigger and two story."

The appeal will be decided by written representations but the inspector will also visit the site.
