MORE than 250 youngsters hit all the right notes when they took part in SuperChoir 2016 hosted by acclaimed composer Simon May.

The children from schools across Devizes and surrounding villages brought the house down when they performed at Dauntsey's School, West Lavington, last Wednesday. (6).

Mr May, who grew up in Devizes and is most famous for creating the EastEnders theme tune, was back in town for the day which is supported by Devizes Rotary Club.

SuperChoir artistic director Carole Berry said: "I was thrilled and privileged to be directing and conducting this performance. Young singers from some of the smallest to the largest Devizes schools made this the most inspiring, exhilarating and memorable event of the year.

"Over 250 children aged from 6 to 14 years sang their hearts out to a massive appreciative audience in the second Superchoir concert, now established as an annual event in the town.

"Eleven schools had been practising separately for months, and came together for the first time on Saturday for just one mass rehearsal and then produced a polished and professional performance that stunned us all."

She said it had been wonderful to visit the schools in the months leading up to the show to see the hard work of the children and their teachers. She said: "The day itself was planned entirely around the children, many of whom had never performed on such a large scale before.

"They practised, played in the sunshine and had tea together. Lovely to see them having so much fun."

The programme of songs, some pop and traditional, some from shows, and all approved by the children themselves, was warmly received by the audience.

Mrs Berry said: "For me, the sight of so many youngsters in this SuperChoir, wearing the same bright t-shirts, smiling and holding hands in Bridge Over Troubled Water, was very moving and a message to us all.

"Working together as a team from such a young age to produce something so beautiful is a wonderful thing and an achievement to remember all their lives."

She thanked the Rotary Club of Devizes as sponsors and for its work behind the scenes.
