A YOUNG man from Devizes is shaving his head for charity just days before his is due to have an operation to remove tumours from his brain.

Charlie Pull, 18, of Moyne Close, is due to go to Bristol hospital on Monday (July 11) for an operation which will remove two tumours from his brain. Instead of waiting until Monday to have the doctors shave his head he is choosing to have local barber Jon Taylor do it for him.

Charlie, who lives with his fiancé Zoe and five-month-old daughter Lily, said: “I decided to have my head shaved by Jon because he is a friend, I get along with him. I am doing it for Brave the Shave as I am having the operation and they would be shaving off half my hair anyway. I have a sponsor who has said they will donate but only if I shave my beard, I love my beard.”

After being rushed to Bristol Hospital after visiting Bath RUH with headaches five weeks ago, Charlie was told he had two tumours growing in his head.

“I have two benign tumours, one on the right and one on the left, which affect my nervous system. Since I have had the first operation the headaches have stopped. When I had the first operation there were a few problems which meant I had to be resuscitated,” Mr Pull added.

The discovery of the tumours on Charlie’s brain came as a shock to his family who have all rallied behind him for support.

Zoe Swanborough, 19, said: “It was such a shock, we have been together for three years and nine months. I have been sorting out the flat and looking after Lily whilst Charlie has been in hospital. He has been so brave and all of us are extremely proud of him.”

Charlie decided to shave his head for the Macmillan Cancer Support charity campaign after his mother, Sarah Eyles, saw it on Facebook.

Mrs Eyles, 37, of Massey Road, said: “I saw people doing it on Facebook and suggested it to Charlie. I recently lost a friend to cancer and Zoe lost her grandad to it too. Finding out about Charlie was a hell of a shock, also because they don’t know what is going to happen. I am really proud of him, he has been very brave.”

Jon Taylor, 33, manager of J’s Gent’s Hairdressers in Sidmouth Street, has said he feels overwhelmed that Charlie has chosen his barbers to shave his head.

Mr Taylor said: “I have known Charlie for three years, for him to choose me to shave his head is amazing. I really admire the lad, he has a lot going on in his life at the moment, I think he is very brave.”
