STUDENTS at Devizes School were given the chance to consider their futures when a careers fair was staged on the premises.

Mayor Roger Giraud-Saunders declared the event open and welcomed more than 30 local and nationals employers. The main hall and adjoining small hall were transformed into a sea of colour with banners, posters and displays advertising the different companies.

In addition to firms a number of colleges, gap year groups and training providers were on hand to give students advice.

Pupils from year 10 and 12 were able to meet the employers and browse the stands.

One of the stranger guests was a corn snake brought in by Wiltshire College from its animal care course.

As part of the afternoon sessions the year 10 students took part in a careers workshop and heard talks from Jaime Williamson from Dstl and Cliff Evans, founder of the Kileva charity, who shared their experiences of making the most of opportunities.

Careers co-ordinator Hilary Hampton said: "The event was enjoyed by students and employers alike and many positive comments have been received from both. We would like to thank all the organisations that gave their time to offer this opportunity to our students. It was a positive step towards building their futures."
