A Devizes pre-school which inspires its youngsters and works closely with parents has been declared outstanding by Ofsted inspectors.

Staff and parents of Little Bears which is based in the grounds of Nursteed Primary School are now celebrating the top rating. Early years leader Theresa Lye said: "We are absolutely thrilled with the Ofsted report. The whole team are committed to providing a fun, happy environment for children to learn through play. This is recognition of all the hard work we put in."

Parent of twins at the preschool, Lizzy Martch-Harry said: "My children love Little Bears, the staff are so kind and considerate. They are always approachable. I would be happy to recommend the preschool to any parent wanting fantastic childcare."

The report said that the nursery: "Provided children with a superb range of challenging activities to support their learning development."

It also noted that it met each child's care and learning needs exceptionally well.

It went on to say: "Managers and staff are well qualified and skilled and therefore the quality of teaching is outstanding.

"They have developed excellent partnerships working with parents and communicate with them frequently.

"The management team is inspiring and fosters a culture of self belief as it empowers staff to maintain their professional development and training. Staff use what they learn to adapt their practice"

The inspectors were particularly impressed that children designed their own shields, measuring card and cutting it to their own required size before adding other collage materials.

The children, who were thrilled with their designs, were then encouraged to show them to other staff, further boosting their self esteem.

Inspectors also were pleased that during outdoor play the youngsters took care of their own planting and growing areas and staff provided them with exciting and invigorating ways of learning to keep healthy as they enjoyed splashing in puddles and building dens.

The pre-school is about to start on a fundraising campaign to build an outdoor shelter so children can play outside in all weathers.
