DEVIZES based steel and aluminium glazing companyWrightsyle is in the process of completing the first phase of a £220 million contract for Network Rail.

The project, working with BAM Construction, is for the Cardiff Stations Enhancement Scheme, which includes upgrades to both Cardiff Central and Cardiff Queen Street stations.

The first part of the contract, for Cardiff Queen Street station, is now nearing completion with work at Cardiff Central due to be completed later this year.

Wrightstyle, who are based in Nursteed Road, design, test and supply specialist steel and glass systems and for the Cardiff stations have supplied 300 square metres of enhanced curtain wall system, along with doors, windows and automated sliding entrance doors.

Lee Coates, technical director, said: “The Queen Street contract underlines how our systems are being specified worldwide in transportation projects, including, Hong Kong in a major transport hub, and in the Dubai Metro.

“In the UK, our systems have been installed in several railway and underground stations, including various locations in the iconic King’s Cross Station in London.”

Director Jane Embury has said the whole of the Wrightstyle team, from the technical department to logistics, have been involved in the project.

She said: “We are a small team of 17 people and we really do all have to work together to pull off these major projects.”

Network Rail has described current the project as the largest-ever rail enhancement scheme in Wales, and the first step towards the electrification of the Valleys’ network.

The scheme is improving station entrances, adding new platforms, upgrading track and signalling, and is all designed to increase reliability and capacity on the Cardiff and Valleys rail network.
