VIillagers in Urchfont are celebrating the 10-year anniversary of their community shop and post office.

After five years of planning and raising more than £100,000, the shop opened in February 2005 in a converted outbuilding of the Lamb Inn.

Last Sunday the committee, volunteers and supporters came together to mark the occasion with a party in the village hall.

Shop treasurer David Myers said: “We had over 60 people come, including original members of the planning group. I think we are well supported because we serve a need and stock a wide range of products, along with customer requests.”

The shop is run by the Urchfont Community Shop Association, staffed by 55 volunteers and leased to them by Wadworth Brewery, which owns the pub.

It is open seven days a week and has three part-time managers: committee chairman Richard Mistlin, Ruth Cooper and Barbara Myers, with the post office run by Mary Craddock. To volunteer to help at the post office, call 01380 840001.
