Nightclub attack victim Chris Lang, who has been left with epilepsy following a brutal assault, has spoken for the first time about the night that left him with life-changing injuries.

Mr Lang, 30, who lives at St Bridget Close, Devizes, with his partner Claire, 35, was in Marlborough to help with a charity fundraising event for the Finlay Foundation at the Royal Oak.

He went on to the Azuza nightclub with his partner and sister Rebecca, 32. Police are appealing for witnesses to the attack which happened as the three left the club on October 12.

Mr Lang, whose speech is now slurred and who suffers repeated seizures, said: “I can remember being held round the neck and then going down.”

He was left with severe head injuries including a bleed on the brain and bad bruising and spent four days in Great Western Hospital in Swindon.

His family thought he was on the mend but eight days after the attack he suffered his first seizure.

Doctors carried out tests and said the injuries had caused epilepsy.

Mr Lang, who had recently set up a transport business, has now had his driving licence taken away and is unable to be left alone.

He has since suffered seven more seizures witnessed by both his son Alfie, ten, and his partner’s daughter Sasha, seven.

Mr Lang said: “It is very upsetting. It is frustrating for me to have to have someone with me all the time, not to be able to work and not to be able to speak properly.”

The attack happened after Mr Lang volunteered to help Greg Connor, whose son Finlay, six, died when he was hit by a bus outside Woodborough Primary School, raise cash for the foundation set up in his memory.

Alfie had been at Woodborough Primary with Finlay and was a close friend.

Mr Connor said: “I am shocked and saddened at the attack. Chris is a wonderful man, with a huge heart.”

Mr Lang’s parents Keith and Cathy Lang, of North Newnton, near Pewsey, are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

His father said: “We just want anyone who saw anything or maybe even took a picture or video on their phone to come forward.”

A 27-year-old man from Tidworth was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and is still on police bail pending further enquiries.
