BRITISH judoka Tom Reed was invited to work with newly appointed sports leaders at The Corsham School during a Sky Sports Academy visit.

The sports leaders were treated to a session with the two-times British champion on Thursday, December 15, where they talked about the opportunities of non-mainstream sports and the importance of leadership and teamwork.

The students really enjoyed it," School Sports Coordinator Lucy Long said. "We had Tom Reed and Jamie Barrow in and they are part of the Sky Sports Academy Programme. They took two session with our newly appointed sports leaders and then another session with everyone."

The leadership programme, which is a school-wide programme, was launched on Thursday by Ms Long, who will train the pupils in leadership skills. Those chosen will wear a different coloured t-shirt in lessons and help with warm ups and cool downs during Physical Education lessons and provide support to class mates during group work and general school life.

Ms Long added: "Sky Sports do a programme where they talk about the six keys to success and then they do some activities where they learn leadership qualities and do team building. Tom is really lovely with them and it was a very thought provoking session. Hopefully it has opened their eyes to other sports because of their involvement."
