THE 100th resident of a retirement village in Corsham officially opened their winter craft fair organised to celebrate the village's first anniversary and get the residents in the festive spirit.

Sylvia Humphries opened Wadswick Green's crafts fair at The Greenhouse restaurant on Friday, November 11, which hosted a number of stalls selling handmade products from Wiltshire's finest craftsmen and a raffle which raised £700 for Dorothy House.

Chairman of Rangeford Holdings Peter Ford, who helped develop Wadswick Green, said: "It’s an absolute privilege to not only celebrate the first birthday of Wadswick Green but also welcome our 100th resident.

"Each and every single one of our 100 residents contributes something special to our village, helping us to create the modern lifestyle village for the over 60s that we set out to create. I am truly looking forward to seeing our community grow with the next phases and am hoping for many more milestones to come."

Mrs Humphries, who was excited to open the fair, said the open spaces and the community of the retirement home helped her make the decision to become the 100th resident.

She said: "I went to bed on the first night here and knew that this is just so right. At first my head was ruling my heart - I knew I couldn’t go on in my big house. I chose Wadswick Green because of the feeling of space - everywhere else seemed very built up."
