CORSHAM has a new chairman at the helm of the Corsham Churches Food Bank following the resignation of their five-year long head honcho.

Diana Lumb stepped down from her role at the food bank in St Aldhelm's Church, Pickwick Road, that she has filled since May 2011 last month and has been replaced by Steve Drew.

Since the food bank started its important work, there have been between 40 to 50 regular volunteers which has been further bolstered by many helpers from Corsham Secondary School's Student leaders.

As a thank you to the Outgoing Chair, the new Chair, Steve Drew, presented her with a bouquet of flowers at the recent food hamper packing weekend.

“The fact that volunteers come from some churches and no churches, and they all want to help; and the fact that we have found how pleased people in the area are that somebody is actually providing food to those who really need it," said Mrs Lumb, who will remain as a volunteer.

"That is the bit that makes you feel that it’s all been worthwhile.”

“I am looking forward to the challenges ahead, and to us continuing to help as many people as require the service we provide," said Mr Drew.

"In times of political and economic uncertainty, those who are already struggling are affected first and worst – and it is those people who we help.”

Their opening hours are 10-11.30am every Tuesday and 10am-12pm every Saturday and for more information about the food bank or volunteering there call 07788 115095.
