THE very best that Corsham has to offer turned out on Friday as judges toured the town as part of the Britain in Bloom South West Pennant competition.

Although the winner will not get announced until October, judges came to critique the town on its efforts to improve local environments, tree, flower and shrub planting as well as tackling litter, graffiti and vandalism.

Groups across the town, such as Pickwick WI, the Transition Community Corsham environmental group, the primary school, the Royal British Legion, sheltered accommodation representatives, Brownies and Cubs among others all showcased their individual efforts to impress the judges.

Chairman of the Parish Council, Ruth Hopkinson, said: "It was an absolutely brilliant day and you could tell the town rose to the occasion brilliantly.

"We had some extremely favourable comments which was lovely to hear - the judges were very nice.

"I am very happy with how it all went. A lot of effort has gone into this by the community and they did themselves proud.

"The weather was just about clement and the judges definitely liked what they saw. One of them in particular said he had never been to Corsham but he was very impressed.

"I want to thank everyone for the wonderful work and effort they put into this and hopefully we can celebrate a victory in October."

The theme for the competition was focused on Dorothy House Hospice Care, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year.

As a result, a lot of the town's displays had a pink and purple look to recognise the colours of the charity.

A special presentation will take place in Taunton for the 2016 edition.
