MORE than £2500 was raised for local causes from the popular Corsham Summer Fete on Saturday (June 11) which coincided nicely with the Queen’s 90th birthday.

From 12-4pm at the town’s Springfield Recreation ground, around 2,000 people attended the jamboree, which involved a host of fun for all the family.

Some attractions included a Little Zoo, birds of prey, donkey rides, a Fun ‘Royal’ Dog Show organised by Guide Dogs for the Blind and music from local artists.

Sharon Thomas, head of the council’s community services, said: “Thank you to the fantastic Corsham community who came out in droves this afternoon and made the annual Summer Fete one of the best yet.

“We were absolutely thrilled with how it went and we were very pleased it stayed dry throughout. We raised around £2,500 which is a huge reason why we do this to help some great causes and local people.”

There was also lots of community stalls, fairground rides, a gladiator joust, MOD weapons stand, a kids’ Assault Course, plus a beer tent, Pimms tent, barbecue, pizza, hog roast and the chance to parade in your decorated crown.

Town Council Chairman Cllr Ruth Hopkinson added: "The Town Council is very grateful to everyone, including our stallholders, performers, MOD Corsham and Wiltshire Council, for their help and support with one of our biggest events of the year."
