A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD from Corsham who recovered from a severe bacterial infection has single-handedly raised £350 towards the Bath's Children Centre as a thank you for making him better.

Archie Enstone, of Macie Drive, was rushed to Bath's Royal United Hospital in December where he had to have brain scans and lumbar punctures for suspected meningitis.

Ever since his recovery, Archie, who now wants to become a doctor, has been focused on raising money for the hospital and repaying the staff that helped him recover.

After months of planning, over 30 friends attended his charity sports day at Corsham Rugby Club, which proved to be a huge success.

"I was so so happy to raise that much for them. I did not expect to get that at all, it was very surprising but great," said Archie, who is a pupil at Corsham Primary School.

"Luckily I recovered from my illness thanks to the amazing care the hospital gave me and I have always wanted to find a way to say thank you to the incredible doctors and nurses that looked after me.

"I love sports, especially rugby and cricket but rugby is a bit too tough so I went for this. Everyone had a great time and so did I.

"I am really looking forward to going to the hospital and giving my donation to them with my family.

"When I am older I would love to be a doctor so I can help others, just like the doctors that helped me."

The sports day involved baseball, cricket, hurdles, javelin and races among other events as well as selling cakes and drinks for the hospital.

His parents Robin, 38, and Jen Enstone, 37, could not be more proud of their son.

"It was a very serious and worrying 24 hours. He fell ill very quickly and was rushed to hospital but he shook off a very serious thing and it is testament to his character that he responded in this way.

"He has been obsessed with this and it has been fantastic. We are so proud of him," said Mr Enstone.

"Although he is only seven, he pretty much did it all by himself. He was so chuffed it went so well. I think he would have been delighted to raise £20 let alone this much.

"He had his heart set on this straight away and making a difference and he has done just that."
