THE Corsham Repair Café is hoping to capitalise on local people's New Year resolutions when it opens for its next sessions on Saturday (Jan 23) from 2-4pm at the Pound Arts Centre.
Run jointly by Pound Arts and Corsham’s green group, Transcoco, the quarterly run café has now helped customers mend over 150 items since it began in 2013. The aim of the event is to help people mend their broken household items, rather than throw them away.
Pip Parker from Transcoco’s Waste Group said: “We throw away piles of stuff which can be used again after a single repair.
“Unfortunately many people have forgotten that they can have things repaired, or with assistance, learn to mend things for themselves. This can save money, resources and waste. In Corsham, we are working to change this.
“We hope everyone who has made a New Year resolution to make do and mend will come along in January and learn to repair for free.”
Experts will be on hand to help people repair damaged household items, ranging from broken zips and buttons to computers, chairs and toasters.
