THE cyclist who was involved in a collision with a lorry in Corsham last Monday has died as a result of his injuries over the weekend.

The man, in his 70s was named locally as Roger Morris who was a lifelong member of Corsham Cricket Club.

In a post on their website over the weekend, club secretary John Gale said: “News has reached the Club that Roger Morris died earlier today (Sunday) from the injuries he sustained last Monday.

“The thoughts and prayers of all at Corsham Cricket Club are with Roger's wife, Mary, and their family and close friends at their sad loss.

“Roger will be missed by all who knew him.”

It is believed Mr Morris was on his way to the club last Monday around 9am to help them with work of renovating the square.

He was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol by air ambulance after suffering serious injuries when he collided with a HGV on Pickwick Road near the Methuen Arms.

Mr Gale said Mr Morris sustained "catastrophic brain injuries” and that his chances of regaining consciousness were described as “less than slim".

Mr Gale added: “We were devastated by it all. He was on his way to help out with the work to prepare the square for next year and we noticed there was a lot of activity with police and ambulance but we didn’t realise it was Roger until one of the club members came in and said it was him who was involved in the accident.

“He has been a long serving member and was a mechanic by trade so any time the mechanics failed us he would always come down with his tool box in hand and mend it.

“He was advised to take up cycling a few years ago and you would often see him riding around the lanes and he just loved it.”

Police closed the road all morning while emergency services attended the scene. It reopened shortly before 12.30pm.

Anyone who witnessed the collision should call police on 101.
