POLDARK is returning for a second series after using Corsham as a back-drop for some of its scenes.

The High Street was transformed into 18th century Cornwall last May, when the film cast and crew took over the town as one of several locations for the eight part period drama series.

It saw pub The Flemish Weaver turn into the Red Lion and the Corsham Post Office become a fine art shop, carriages also decked out the cobbled roads.

And Ruth Hopkinson, chair of Corsham Town Council, is hoping they return to film again. She said: “We have every expectation that they will return and we will welcome them with open arms.”

An exhibition of behind-the-scenes photographs taken during the filming has also attracted a large number of visitors into the town. It was displayed in the Town Hall before moving to the Tourist Information Centre earlier this month where it will stay until May.

Mrs Hopkinson added: “The exhibition has been absolutely fantastic, we had a visitor’s book which had well over 500 signatures in and not everyone was signing it. As more episodes are shown we are releasing and refreshing the photographs because we don’t want to reveal any spoilers.”

Series two will be based on the third and fourth books of Winston Graham's series and it has been confirmed that Aidan Turner will return as Ross Poldark and Eleanor Tomlinson as Demelza.

A BBC spokesman said: "We only announced the recommission on Wednesday so it is too early to ‎comment on locations for series two. I can say we will most likely go into production this autumn."
