The Corsham Area Board has approved £5,000 towards the purchase of a Mobile CCTV Vehicle for Wiltshire Police’s Chippenham, Calne and Corsham sector.
The award follows previous grants from the other areas, and Coun Phillip Whalley said: “It’s a clearly-marked vehicle-maintained mobile CCTV unit, to detect and deter crime and anti-social behaviour across the towns and villages, and to provide a clear presence in the community.”
More than £5,500 worth of grants were handed out to Colerne organisations last week when they met at the village hall.
The board awarded £2,500 for a new community marquee and lighting equipment, which will be put to use at the village’s Armed Forces Day celebration on July 28.
The Colerne Branch of the Royal British Legion also received £3,090 toward the restoration of the village war memorial.
Branch chairman Andy Williams said: “It is quite shabby at the moment, and doesn’t reflect the respect to the fallen that they deserve. It’s very much a focal point in the community.”
Elsewhere £2,500 plus VAT was awarded to the Katherine Park Residents Association for new grass matting at the estate’s play area, and £810 was given to the newly-formed Corsham Hockey Club for junior goalkeeping equipment.
The next area board meeting will be on July 24, and is hoped to take place inside the Springfield Campus.
