THE designer behind Princess Diana’s jewel cladded wedding dress joined staff at Chippenham’s Oxfam bridal boutique for a special episode of hit TLC show Say Yes to the Dress UK.

During the charity shop special, which will be aired tomorrow (Friday, September 9), David Emanuel will help three brides-to-be select their dream dress from rails stacked full of big names at the charity shop on The Bridge.

The shop, which stocks around 150 wedding dresses from dozens of different designers, caters to brides on a budget with the average frock costing just £250.

“We do like to think of ourselves as the best bridal boutique, so it is lovely for sleepy old Chippenham,” said manager Karen Emm-Fennell, who has worked in the shop for 12 years.

“A lot of people are quite shocked with the prices we offer and we do really well.

“We are constantly taking appointments and people come from miles to come and have a look but I think the show will definitely increase our footfall.”

All the dresses in Oxfam’s bridal range are donated and come from big names such as Ian Stewart and Maggie Sottero to more budget dresses from Asos, which go for as low as £39.99.

“There is such a big range here and a lot of younger brides are looking for more vintage style dresses at the moment,” Mrs Emm-Fennell added. “We have some dresses here which originally went for a couple of thousand pounds but the labels have been cut out.”

Mr Emanuel joined the knowledgeable staff at the boutique to help scour the racks for three dresses; one designer, one vintage and one budget for the three brides-to-be and Mrs Emm-Fennell praised the experience.

“He was really lovely and he posed for photos with lots of our staff members. I even saw him looking through our CD department and I think he bought a few things!”

Mr Emanuel added: “I’m amazed and impressed by the quality of the clothes and the variety of styles. This is smart shopping.

“Most of the dresses look brand new, they are beautifully clean and pressed and ready to step into, and you can buy designer at an Oxfam bridal boutique for a fraction of the price.

“What’s not to like about saying ‘Yes’ to the dress for less?”

Say Yes to the Dress For Less will premiere on TLC tomorrow at 9pm as part of Friday Brideday.
