STUDENTS at Wiltshire College in Chippenham have been getting hands-on and out on the streets filming as part of a project to enhance their abilities and skills as filmmakers.

Working alongside Corsham TV, the students have been speaking to people in the town about a range of topics which are being shown on the channel.

A series of 3-4 minute factual programmes will be aired and is one of a number of collaborations to help train the next generation of filmmakers.

Nicola Dew, TV and film tutor at Wiltshire College’s Chippenham campus, said: “This was very much a real-world exercise which certainly stretched our students.

“It’s even inspired some of them to think about a career in factual programme-making.

“We’re looking forward to exploring future opportunities with Corsham TV.”

Programmes include the history of the station, the role of apprenticeships in the local economy, whether the voting age should be lowered and the challenges that local pubs face amongst other things.

Corsham TV, a community-inspired digital TV channel, is part of the Digital Corsham initiative from Corsham Institute which was founded in 2015 and looks to get the views and thoughts of people from Box, Neston, Colerne and Lacock to find out their stories.

Corsham TV’s channel director, Martin Head, who leads the Digital Corsham initiative, said: “The range of stories that the students came up with was very impressive and it was great to increase Corsham Institute’s links with Wiltshire College.

“We look forward to more projects in the future.”
