PUPILS at Hardenhuish School had the chance to take part in variety of activities as part of a cross-curricular day, including meeting a gold medal Paralympian and learn what life was like during the First World War.

Year 9 students took part in a mock recruitment experience, including filling in authentic registration cards from 1914 and had their height and eye sockets checked.

Other sessions throughout the day included looking at medicine, uniforms, crime and punishment and what to do in the event of a gas attack.

Elsewhere in the school Year 11 pupils had the chance to talk with Paralympian Stephanie Millward, who claimed two gold medals at the Rio Paralympics.

Joe Wood, associate assistant headteacher, who organised the day, said: “The pupils had a fantastic cross-curricular day at Hardenhuish where they were able to further their understanding and learning through a variety of different educational experiences.

“The success of cross-curricular days is down to the preparation and hard work of Hardenhuish staff and external guests in ensuring that each element of the day offers something of value to all of our pupils.

“We are very much looking forward to our next cross-curricular day in March, providing our pupils with the opportunity to explore subjects from a different perspective.”
