SHELDON School have been left celebrating after a record of 98 per cent of its students have left with three or more A-levels in this year’s results.

Headteacher Neil Spurdell said: “In total, 39 per cent of students (67) gained at least one grade A, which is a significant achievement and I am so pleased to see so many of the students heading off to their universities of choice.

“We are delighted with the performances of students at the top end, but as a fully inclusive comprehensive sixth form we are thrilled with the results of students right across the ability spectrum; to see only two U grades from the whole year group is outstanding.

“Their hard work, together with the support from our teaching staff and parents, has very much paid off.”

Notable performers include Ellen Heimpel with four A* and one A, who will now study biological sciences at Birmingham University, and Ishmael Akalanne with three A* and an A, who will go to Cambridge University to study natural sciences.

Also scoring four A*/A grades are Annabel Brunt, Joanna Crook and George Corr while Charles Shaw and Freddie Redding achieved three A* grades.

Gemma Shepherd, who achieved two A* and an A is moving to the USA where she will study at Yale University.

Harry Vaz, who achieved three A* in English language, business and history will now study law at Queen Mary University in London.

He said: “I wasn’t expecting three A* but I checked UCAS before I came in to see that I had been accepted.”
