CHILDREN at Sutton Benger Primary School pushed, pulled and rode their way around to raise funds for a new £20,000 playground project.

The Wheel Challenge encouraged all 162 children at the school to bring in various wheels, including scooters, prams, suitcases and bicycles.

The children then completed laps with their chosen wheels around the school, located on Chestnut Road, to raise money for the new playground.

“We’re looking to redevelop the end of the playground and put in a small theatre area, a gymnastics area and a seating and low-level climbing area,” said headteacher, Ursula Scott.

“The idea was to raise as much money as possible from sponsorship forms and for the children to enjoy themselves.

“I haven’t got an exact number but I think we’re well on the way to £800.

“The parents have organised a range of other events to raise money and four of the staff took part on a zip wire in Gloucester and raised over £600.

“We’re hoping that we will have enough to start building it by October or November.”
