CHIPPENHAM Town Council is calling on YOU to make a difference as it prepares to launch its litter pick campaign.

The #chipplitterpick campaign is calling on everyone in Chippenham to pick up at least one piece of rubbish on bank holiday Monday to help tackle the problem and spread awareness.

Chippenham Town Mayor David Powell said: “There’s 40,000 of us in Chippenham. We’re saying how about picking up just one or two pieces of litter if you happen to see it?

“Just think, if we all got into the habit of doing that, what a difference we could all make and the impact we could have.

“I’ve vowed that for the rest of my life every day I will pick up any litter I see between my house and the newsagent. That will be my little contribution, to keep that small piece of Chippenham tidy.

“It’s not hard, the message really is simple – if you see a piece of litter, why not pick it up rather than step over it?

“Ideally we’d like to have a community where people don’t drop litter but this is a first step.

“This is your town, what are you doing for Chippenham? Well, here’s your chance.”

The campaign has been taken up by groups across the town with community organisations such as Off The Ground backing it and the town’s primary schools nominating areas they will be tidying up.

Free black bin bags are currently available for collection from the Town Hall, John Coles Park and Stanley Park sports ground for those taking part in the campaign.
