Hardenhuish School have matched their best ever A Level Results today with a pass rate of 99.4 per cent.

The school were delighted to find that 58 per cent of the results were in the A* to B category, with eight per cent achieving the highest grade, an A*, and an average total UCAS points score of 334.

Head teacher, Jan Hatherell, said: “These results are a fantastic as all exams are now completed in the summer season.

“This reflects the strength of the Hardenhuish community of students and teachers, supported by the students’ parents, working hard and effectively together over many years, with effective information, advice and guidance.

“Across the board the majority of students have met or exceeded their personal targets so there have been many success stories, not just those at the top end of the ability range.”

Star student William Woodacre achieved 3 A* grades in Maths, Further Maths and Physics and is going to study Computer Science at Imperial College in London.

He said: “It’s a big relief. I got an offer including STEP which is strange for Computer Science and I was really nervous about that because it’s not something the school teaches but I got the grad and I turned out well.”

Fellow students, Nicholas Reed achieved an A* in Maths and Further Maths and A grades in Physics and English Literature while Daniel Salter achieved A* in Maths and Further Maths and an A in Physics.

Meanwhile over at Abbeyfield, students and staff were also celebrating a fantastic set of results with 98 per cent of students achieving two or more A levels at A* to E.

The school saw 64 per cent of all students achieve A* to C grades in three or more subjects including strong performances in Maths, Further Maths and Physics.

Head teacher, Ian Tucker, said: “All our students will be leaving with A levels and to have a high proportion with A* to C grades are a real achievement for them.

“They have been highly successful in both academic and vocational courses too.

“Abbeyfield has the commitment to support students achieve what they want in life and we are dedicated to our motto of our sixth form being a place where students ‘enter to learn, and leave to achieve’.”

Abbeyfield student Dom Clarke is off to Oxford after achieving three A* grades while Oliver Gregory is set to study at the Imperial College London after achieving an A* and two As.

There were plenty of smiles at Sheldon School too where around 40 per cent of students achieved a least one A grade result.

Head teacher Neil Spurdell said: “The results are absolutely fantastic; we are absolutely thrilled for the students.

“The results are a big improvement on last year and we are particularly delighted with so many A*s.

“I am really pleased so many are off to their first choice university, it’s nothing more than they deserve. The year group worked so hard and the results are a credit to them and the school.”
