Bath Rugby favourites have visited children in Chippenham to encourage them to stay active.
Leroy Houston and Ross Batty went to Redland Primary School to deliver Bath Rugby Foundation’s Something to Chew On, a programme using rugby to get children enthusiastic about having a healthy and active lifestyle.
One in five children entering primary school are overweight or obese, according to Public Health England. And this increases to one in three by the time they get to high school.
The players worked alongside children in years 3 and 4 and Bath Rugby Foundation coach Joe Aygul to make a sandwich choosing healthy fillings, and the youngsters grilled the players on their own diets.
Houston said: “My food intake is really important. It gives me the right balance of nutrients to allow me to stay at the top of my game. Without a balanced diet I would not have enough energy, and my body wouldn’t repair itself effectively, which would stop me being able to train and play.”
The programme is funded by BT Sport’s The Supporters Club and Public Health England.
