Subway worker Scott Austin stole stole thousands from the till to pay for his girlfriend’s boob job, a court was told.

Scott Austin, 28, of Cricketts Lane, Chipp-enham, admitted theft by employee when he appeared at Chippenham Magistrates’ Court .

He took between £840 and £4,000 over the course of a year until he was caught in March.

He wanted to stop but his then girlfriend told him she would turn him in to police unless he continued to supply her with the cash she wanted to enhance her figure, the court heard.

The theft was uncovered when his boss at the branch in The Bridge, Chippenham, noticed takings were down. He reviewed CCTV and saw Austin pocketing cash on at least eight occasions.

Fed up of being blackmailed, Austin decided to turn himself in to police voluntarily, magistrates were told. He has not seen his girlfriend since that day, when she threatened him to keep her name out of it, said defence solicitor Lee Mott.

“She sounds quite a piece of work,” he said. “He knows he has been something of a fool in love. The love of a bad woman has done him no end of damage here.

“When he got to the point where he thought, enough is enough, she turned on him and said, ‘our relationship will be over and I will tell police what you’ve done’.

“He has not seen a penny of this. Everything was handed to her.”

Austin told police he had taken £1,000 a fortnight.

Probation services told the court he had first put his hand in the till when his mum, a teacher, was away and he ran out of electricity and dog food.

Then his partner demanded he take more, first for a car and then for a list of cosmetic procedures she had drawn up.

Austin knew he had done wrong and did want to make it back to the community, magistrates heard.

Austin, who now packages items for a hardware company, must pay Subway back £3,000, adding to a debt he already had of £5,000.
