A CHARITY night hosted by five times world darts champion Eric Bristow, who tweeted controversial comments about the football sexual abuse crisis, has been cancelled by Bremhill organisers following poor ticket sales.

The darts night organised to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support at Bremhill View Social Club for Saturday, December 3 has been cancelled by Kim Chapell after her £12 tickets failed to sell.

The darts legend prompted outrage on Monday night after he implied in a series of tweets that footballers should have confronted their attackers earlier.

Mrs Chapell said: "We are cancelling the event due to low ticket sales and it just so happened that he made those comments. There were 150 tickets up for sale and so many people said they were getting tickets for it. Some have said recently that they were going to get them on the night but I think they have said that to be polite and these comments might put people off."

Sky Sports dropped Bristow as a pundit following the comments which he has now apologised for on a statement posted on Twitter.

Bristow also clarified that any money he has recieved for interviews in the wake of the controversy will be donated in full to charity.
