THE ORGANISERS of Calne in Bloom have spoken of their delight after they walked away with a gold award for the third year in a row.

The town, which was adorned in bright and colourful flowers for weeks, was presented with a gold award in the Portman Cup category while six other organisation took home a coveted outstanding award in the Its' Your Neighbourhood category.

Calne in Bloom coordinator Trudi King said: "We got gold again for the third year in a row in the Portman Cup and we are delighted with that because we are not a big town and our ground staff and community have put in so much work.

"We don't have many staff at the moment and they did a cracking job. I would have liked to win the Portman Cup but we are in with the big boys and it is a massive achievement.

"Calne in Bloom is about lovely flowers and it is great that people in and said how lovely the displays were but it is also about the community growing together and children learning about plants too."

The town were also delighted to receive seven outstanding awards in the It's Your Neighbourhood Category for displays at Castlefields Canal and River Park, Beversbrook Sports Facility, Friends of Abberd Brook, Fynamore School, The Wharf, Page Close and Marden House Centre.

Mrs King also said the town are proud of the Mill Race Activity Club, who in their first year of entering, achieved an Advancing award. She said: "They have a very small allotment and they have grown things that they can cook with and they have also done a gorgeous art exhibition and the clients showed the judges around and they were so good."
