AS English golfer Danny Willett made history on Sunday by winning the Masters a group of youngsters were learning a love for the game at a course near Devizes.

North Wilts Golf Club gave 25 youngsters the chance to try out all aspects of the sport during a school holiday course.

Club members and young golf leaders showed the children aged from five to 14 how to put and strike the ball before they went on to play three holes specially set up for them.

Five children showed so much promise that they were given a prize of free membership for the rest of the season.

Junior organiser June Poffley said: "So many children showed promise that organisers had trouble choosing which five could make good use of free membership for the rest of the season; but, in the end these went to Ozzie Reed, Daisy Perrett, Samuel McGibbon, Gemma Haines and Harry Burton. Such was the enthusiasm of the entire group that half of them came along to the regular 11.30am coaching group on the following Saturday and many are looking towards junior membership as well as winning the majors in about twenty years time."
