COMMUNITY music hub Calne in Tune, announced by Calne town mayor Howard Marshall last July, will have its opening night on Wednesday (Feb 3).

Calne in Tune has been set up as a charity, with a full committee, and will hold its first free musical evening on February 3 upstairs in the White Hart Hotel from 7pm til 9pm.

The weekly music sessions, open to all ages and abilities, aim to encourage musicians to visit and share experiences while allowing youngsters to learn and absorb knowledge in a safe and relaxed environment.

Calne in Tune chair and bass player, Coun Marshall, said: “They will become more confident, will become team players and will know how to handle their equipment and instruments safely.

“They will gain stage presence and grow their ability.

“I am absolutely thrilled that we have everyone on board, we have a venue that’s quite central and it’s now going to take off, all I need now is for people to come along.

“There’s definitely the demand from the discussions I have had with all kinds of people, whether it be music teachers to young students it’s definitely wanted so we are going to give it a go.

Coun Marshall hopes that over the coming years a pool of talented musicians who know and can play together, will grow in the town.

In the distant future, there are even plans for a jazz-style festival, with pubs throughout the town hosting a fully programmed series of music nights.
