BRAND new family music festival Heddstock will bring the curtain down on a summer of events in Calne next week.

Heddstock will take place on September 26 at the site of the old steam rally in Heddington and is set to feature the original line-up of The Boys from County Hell and The Chaos Brothers.

Tony Green, 65, of Mill Street, and David Young, 53, of Swindon, have organised the festival after the Heddington Steam Rally was postponed earlier this year.

Mr Young said: “It was originally conceived to fill the gap left by the steam rally in Heddington, all the locals were upset nothing was happening and we decided to put something on.

“We’ve kept the ticket price low and ticket sales have been very good, they’ve been very strong.

“It’s a really big stage with high quality lights and sound system; we want people to go away with great memories so we can do it again.”

The not-for-profit festival will be donating its profits to the Heddington Parish Council amenities committee to fund local projects.

Organiser David Young, former landlord of The Vic in Swindon’s Old Town and 12bar, has hand-picked the music from bands he knows and trusts.

As a result, ticket holders will be able to see a real mix of music, suitable for all tastes, including Madness tribute band Nuttyness, mash-up specialists Creme De Chevre, dub reggae artist SN Dubstation and country band Case Hardin.

A shuttle bus service will run between the festival in Heddington and the Calne town centre for £2 per person for those looking to make use of the festival’s licensed bars.

Mr Young, who plays guitar for both The Boys from County Hell and the Chaos Brothers, said: “I think we have a great line up, it’s a family festival so we got a family line up, every band is different and there’s something for all tastes.

“We set it up in three months; the council and the police said it would normally take a year of consultation to get to this stage.”

Advanced tickets for adults are £8 and £5 for under 12s and are available from Sainsbury's in Calne, The White Hart in Calne, The Ivy Inn in Heddington and Magpie Music in Chippenham.

Tickets on the gate are £10 for adults, £5 for under 12s while under 5s go free. For more information visit: www.facebook.com/Heddstock
