AN 80-year-old man was taken to hospital after suffering a head injury in an accident outside the White Hart Inn, Calne, this morning.

He was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon for treatment by ambulance.

The ambulance service received a call just before 9.45am after the accident on the A4 London Road, which was partially blocked.

Although the Wiltshire Air Ambulance flew to the scene it was not needed.

Faye Green, a barmaid at the hotel, said: “One of the ladies who cleans for us said a man had collapsed.

“Two or three members of the public were on their phones, presumably to the emergency services and traffic was piling up.”

Road safety at the junction has been an area of concern for Calne Area Board who has been considering a redesign.

Calne town councillors were asked for their views at a Town Development and Planning meeting.
