The White Hart Inn has been awarded the Calne and District Branch Royal British Legion Poppy Shield after collecting £405.66 during November’s Poppy Appeal.

The pub on London Road, Calne, run by David and Becky Leaning, is the third business in the town to be awarded the Rory Penman shield for collecting the most money for the annual appeal.

Mr Leaning said: “The Legion has an incredibly important role, not just for old soldiers, but also for younger ones who have been injured in more recent conflicts and for families too.”

In 2013, the Calne branch raised nearly £13,000 and 2014’s Poppy Appeal is already over £12,000.
