Children from a Calne school have given a vital boost to a charity that helps families without enough food to eat.
Pupils from St Margaret’s Preparatory School brought gifts of canned and packet food to their Harvest Festival celebration on Friday.
Later the boxes of supplies were handed over to Alan Beamish, the co-ordinator of Devizes Food Bank.
He said: “We are very grateful to the school for its ongoing support of the food bank. The number of people using the food bank went up by 90 per cent last year.”
The school’s Harvest Festival was held at St Mary’s Chapel and was attended by family and friends. The choir performed songs including Harvest For The World, while the school’s chamber choir gave a moving performance of John Rutter’s The Lord Bless You And Keep You.
Daisy and Toby from Year 6 read October and harvest prayers were led by Edward and Nat from Year 2.
Headmistress Karen Cordon said: “We are very pleased to be able to continue our support for the Devizes Food Bank. It does a tremendous job supporting people who are going through a difficult time.”-
